This unique art glass butterfly necklace features a male Large Green Banded Blue butterfly, meticulously hand painted using fine brushes and glass enamels. The design was created at a miniature scale and kiln fired to permanently fuse the imagery into the glass, preserving delicate wing detail and soft color transitions.

In nature, this butterfly has a wingspan of approximately 1.5 inches. This painted version measures just 7.5mm across, making it a tiny, carefully rendered study in scale and precision — like a small specimen suspended in clear glass.

🎨 Process:
My jewelry-making process begins with painting the design directly onto the surface of the glass using glass enamels. Once complete, the piece is kiln-fired at temperatures up to 1500°F to permanently fuse the imagery into the glass. After firing, the glass is shaped and cold-worked using diamond abrasives. A small groove is carefully ground along the edge of the glass to create a secure channel for the wire setting.

Each necklace arrives in a Weathered Heather Jewelry box, wrapped in tissue paper and ready for gifting.

Small bubbles visible within the glass are known as “champagne bubbles” and are a natural characteristic of kiln-formed glass. Measurements are approximate. Colors may vary slightly due to monitor settings.
